The International Society of Automation (ISA) , Bangalore Section, conducted a national symposium on Automation and Digital Transformation of Pharma & Life Sciences Industry on May 25-26, ‘18 at the NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bangalore.

brought together the End Users, Automation Service Providers, Consultants and Policy Makers on a common platform.

Key practicing experts came from Lupin , Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Jubilant Generics ,Anthem BioSciences , Zydus Hospira and shared their valuable experience and state of the art at the manufacturing side in Automation and IT. They spoke about digital smart factories and integrated systems , Automation requirements for batch and continuous processes , Industry 4.0 promises and implementation , Integrated pharma product & development , data analytics in evolving batch processes and challenges in digitalisation of operations.

Solution providers from stalwart companies Infosys , Eurotherm by Schneider Electric, ABB , Endress+Hauser and Lapp India were there as speakers and exhibitors and expounded on topics such as driving operational excellence with Industry 4.0 , aiding data integrity for qualified BMS system and SaaS , Cable and connectivity solutions for pharma industry , advanced digitalisation and automation services for driving the factory of the future and specific aspect of process Raman spectroscopy solutions for pharma and bio-pharma applications.

Very valuable and encouraging perspectives were given by the policy makers and regulators led by DCGI , Dr.Eswara Reddy himself along with Asst.Drugs Controller , Bangalore sub-zone and Commissioner , FDCA, Gujarat.

We had industry perspective from Consultants KPMG and Frost & Sullivan on aspects of evolving automation and smart manufacturing requirements and a roadmap for factory-of-the-future. Other expert speakers covered the topics of Standards for batch control and the key area of Cyber security.

The spacious lobbies of the Convention centre were fully occupied with exhibitor stalls and a host of companies showcased their products and services . To name a few – Honeywell Automation , Zenith Technologies , Pepperl+Fuchs, Wago , Omron Automation , Beckhoff Automation and many others. A wide cross-section of delegates from the industry were present in large numbers on both days with an average attendance of 200 persons.

A panel discussion and technical quizzes enlivened the rich interactions with intervals of sumptuous food in the adjacent dining hall. The participants left with an overwhelmingly positive feedback for the organisers.
